Vietnam's computer exports hit a record

Vietnam’s exports of computers, electronic products and components in March 2017 reached the highest level ever with turnover of $2.19 billion.

According to statistics of the General Department of Customs, exports of computers, electronic products and components in March 2017 hit a record with $2.19 billion turnover, up 27.5% as compared to last month. This brings the total export turnover of this group in the first quarter of 2017 to $5.52 billion, up 47.8% as compared to the same period in 2016.

Vietnam’s computers and electronic products have been present in more than 30 countries and regions in the world. China remains the largest importer of this product group in Vietnam with turnover in the past three months reaching $1.37 billion. This is followed by the EU with $1.04 billion. The export to these two markets alone accounted for 44% of total exports of computers, electronic products and components of Vietnam.

On the other hand, Vietnam’s imports of computers, electronic products and components reached approximately $3 billion in March 2017, an increase of 20% over the previous month. Import turnover of this group in the first quarter of 2017 reached over $7.6 billion, up 16.6% over the same period in 2016.

Computers, electronic products and components imported to Vietnam mainly originated from South Korea with $2.69 billion, China ($1.58 billion) and Taiwan ($773 million).
