Dynamic Vietnam!

An Index created by JLL called City Momentum Index (CMI) places Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi on the top of the world’s most dynamic cities.

The Index examines 42 variables, which can be placed into three major groups: 1. Short-term momentum; 2. Commercial real estate momentum and 3. Long-term fundamentals.

Based on the scores, Ho Chi Minh City is placed 2nd, while Hanoi is 8th overall. Both of the cities scored extremely high on the 1. Short-term momentum, which takes into consideration factors such as Economic output, Population, Retail sales, Air Connectivity and FDI. The high scores in this group, and relatively positive scores in the 2. Commercial real estate momentum allowed Vietnam’s cities to be placed high in the overall ranking. On the other hand, both cities were ranked low on the 3. Long-term fundamentals, which takes into consideration factors such as Higher education, Innovation capability, Technology firms, etc.

BDG Insights

The CMI Index clearly showcase the opportunities and changes currently happening in Vietnam. With the governments promise to modernize the country, improve the higher education system, and with a new wave of development of technological companies in the country, BDG believes that both HCMC and Hanoi will be able to maintain the high positon in the Index, while increasing their score of the Long-term fundamentals in the years to come.
