Sanofi plans to build third plant in Vietnam

Sanofi is planning to build another pharmaceutical plant in Vietnam, Hanspeter Spek, Sanofi’s Chairman for Global Pharmacy, announced during his working visit to the Group’s representative office in Ho Chi Minh City on May 11th.

According to his statement, after successfully investing in the first two plants in Vietnam, Sanofi is prepared to build the third one to boost its pharmaceutical production in the country to meet the need for its pharmaceutical products in the domestic and regional markets.
According to estimates, Sanofi’s third plant will be erected in Ho Chi Minh City, like the first two, in order to make use of available technical and labour resources and will have a capacity similar to its sisters. However, it will take 2-3 years and cost from US$25million to US$150million to build such a pharmaceutical plant, experts said.
The plan could be seen as Sanofi’s further commitment to engaging itself in the market for a long time, stressed Hanspeter Spek.
Vietnam is an emerging market and has become one of Sanofi’s seven key production bases, he added.
